Dunbar Career Coaching Service

Dunbar has recently added a career coaching component to supplement the high school, college and graduate guidance service traditionally offered. This has evolved from the Dunbar commitment to help students reap the benefits of their educational experiences as they become launched in the post- college world.

The service is run by Susan Jones of Dunbar Educational Consultants in Washington, D.C. Ms. Jones works with these college graduates using weekly e-mail and phone calls to guide them in their search for clearer career paths. Mrs. Jones, a clinical social worker, is an experienced lecturer and workshop leader in life transitions. She is thus uniquely qualified in helping young people navigate their post college journey with confidence and clarity, and is firmly committed to seeing these young people find an outcome that matches their skills to their temperaments and career desires.

Mrs. Jones first assists these graduates pinpoint their passions and talents and then helps translate these skills into available opportunities in the job place. Next she works with the nuts and bolts of the process-- the resume, the cover letters, the interviewing skills, and the networking techniques needed to implement a good job search. This becomes a purposeful collaboration whereby the graduate and Ms. Jones work together to pursue the step- by- step strategies necessary to both identify this dream job and then to help it become a reality.

The average duration for the coaching procedure from conception through applications, interviewing and follow-up is typically 3 months.
