What About Life After College?
January 2009
Dunbar offers the same quality of attention and guidance to our graduating college seniors and recent grads that we did when you were seeking our help with the college placement process. College seniors approaching the end of their education and uncertain about what comes next in their lives need to take a focused approach to determining their next steps. This is a unique career coaching service, designed to help young people acquire the direction and tools they need to chart their career journey with confidence and direction.
The process starts with a personal profile to help target personal qualities that are going to be assets in your post-college life. Take your personal inventory by writing down four or five character traits; think of the adjectives that best describe your personality and strengths. If any of the following are relevant to who you are, adopt them, make them your own and use them as the first tool of your resume. In this way, you are going to bring yourself alive for future employers:
- enthusiastic
- team player
- innovative
- decision maker
- multi-tasker
- methodical
- versatile
- focused
- problem solver
- proactive
- energetic
- spirited
- resourceful
- conscientious
- focused
- analytical
These are all highly valuable traits to future employers and bode well for the success of the candidate. If you come up with others that are equally vibrant and relevant, add them. Ideally a profile of four to five highly specific descriptive phases is just what you need to get a future employer interested in reading further. It is important to start seeing these personality traits as strengths and skills that you have to trade on in the future.
If you need help, consider working with our staff Career Coach, Susan Jones. to guide you through this new terrain. Susan, M.S.W., A.C.S.W , is an experienced Career Coach who has successfully enabled many young people to find their ideal next step while making the process pleasurable and interesting. Susan offers weekly phone calls and unlimited emails focused on skill and goal inventory, and resume work.
"This targeted collaboration focuses on step-by-step strategies for obtaining results.
