Juniors!
Junior year PSAT scores may qualify a student for the National Merit Scholarship Competition. Though these scores are not used for college admission, it is still a good idea to take the PSAT when it is offered in October.
Get to know your guidance counselor so that in your senior year he or she can write you a strong recommendation. Let them know what activities you are involved in and how you spend your time outside the classroom.
Keep copies of your best graded papers as some colleges, particularly the growing number of score-optional colleges, will request one or more as part of your application.
Review your plan for when you will take the SAT and/or the ACT and prepare accordingly - don't forget to register early for the best testing location!
Start thinking about and researching colleges; be optimistic but realistic. You'll be developing that list over the winter, with the goal of having a good working list of colleges to visit next spring.
Keep up your hard work in the classroom as junior year grades are very important. And keep in touch with us, especially when those PSAT scores come back in December!
