Seniors!

Welcome back! We realize that you have been busy getting back into your routines however, here are a few things to keep in mind:

If you are planning to take any standardized tests this fall, note the registration deadlines on the College Board and ACT websites.

Be sure that you are aware of the test policies and requirements at each of the colleges on your list. The best resource is always the college's own website but another quick reference is www.prepmatters.com.

Save graded papers that represent your best work in case you apply to a score-optional college where you have the option of submitting a paper in lieu of scores.

If you are applying to a state university with rolling admissions (e.g., Michigan or Wisconsin), get your application in sooner rather than later. Admissions decisions are usually rendered within approximately six weeks after the complete application is received and admission becomes more competitive as spaces fill up. We suggest submitting those applications no later than the end of October.

If you are applying to a University of California college, your application must be submitted during the month of November.

As your list evolves this fall, have you checked out the Colleges That Change Lives website? Loren Pope's list of liberal arts colleges includes some of the best colleges you may not have heard of and is definitely worth checking out. (www.ctcl.org)

Does your list represent an appropriate range of Reaches, Possibles and Likelies?

Make sure you make the effort to meet with college reps when they come to your high school this fall; every contact is an opportunity to make a good impression on someone who may have some influence on your application.

Essays! We've enjoyed reading the drafts we have received; keep them coming. Allow yourself plenty of time for revisions as the best essays are written over time, not overnight.
